Association Governance & Planning

About

The Association Governance & Planning Committee is a Policy Standing Committee chaired by the Past-President.  Membership is comprised of past-presidents.

The chief objectives are:

  1. To advise the President and Executive Committee with regard to following the WASFAA Articles of Association as well as the WASFAA Handbook and Policies and Procedures.
  2. To recommend improvements and amendments to the above documents as dictated by the needs of the membership.
  3. With the WASFAA Executive Committee, construct a strategic plan based on WASFAA’s Mission Statement, and on its basic tenets of Advocacy, Communication, Collaboration, Ethics, and Training.
  4. Review long-range goals as established by the WASFAA Executive Committee for validity and for progress in meeting these goals

WASFAA is managed through 3 governing documents: the Non Stock Articles of Incorporation, the Bylaws, and the Policies and Procedures Handbook.  The Non Stock Articles grant the organization status as a 501(c)3 nonprofit.  Traditionally, the WASFAA Handbook has incorporated both the Bylaws and the Policies and Procedures.  The Non Stock Articles do not change from year to year.  If we decided to change something in these articles (such as the name of our association), we would need to file the appropriate paperwork with the state of Wisconsin.  The Bylaws have the option to be updated on an annual basis at the Spring Conference Business Meeting based on Article IX.  The Policies and Procedures Handbook can be updated annually by the Association Governance Committee, chaired by the Past President.
