Financial Aid Analyst, University of Wisconsin Extended Campus

    Position Summary

    The University of Wisconsin Extended Campus is seeking a Financial Aid Systems Analyst to provide technical, analytical, and reporting support and to develop and implement technical business process improvement for the financial aid office of the UW Flexible Option competency based education programs. The financial aid office acts as a third party servicer for the partner campuses with UW Flexible Option programs. This position reports to the Financial Aid Director and works in collaboration with the UW Extended Campus Information Technology department.

    The Financial Aid Management (FAM) system used is Regent Award. Aid is awarded for a non-term, distance education, direct assessment program, with a subscription period tuition model. Data is pushed back out to the partner campuses with origination and disbursement details.

    This is a 100% FTE two-year project appointment.
     

    Responsibilities

    • Design and develop database reports using SQL Server Transaction-SOL within SQL Server Reporting Services or other appropriate data extraction tools
    • Provide adequate testing of design and execution prior to final testing by users
    • Write and run queries for routine operations and to collect information for data analysis, regulatory reporting and legislative  and internal audits, financial aid surveys, and annual reports
    • Work closely with management team to implement new workflow processes to improve efficiencies and maintain regulatory and institutional compliance
    • Test software updates, setup changes, custom processes, and resolve errors
    • Develop job streams, recurrence definitions for batch jobs and batch job schedules
    • Collaborate with partner institution’s administrative offices to monitor job routines for financial aid processing; maintain batch job schedule, and monitor routines for financial aid processing
    • Develop and implement data analytics for ongoing assessment of department performance
    • Assist with processing and resolution of data discrepancies
    • Maintain and configure financial aid PeopleSoft module
    • Serve as liaison between functional staff and technical staff
    • Document all processes and procedures related to PeopleSoft
    • Serve as backup resident PeopleSoft power user for financial aid

     

    Required Qualifications

    • Associate’s in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

     

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field
    • Technical experience working with PeopleSoft software strongly preferred
    • Experience working in the higher education environment; in the financial aid field is highly desirable
    • Experience with database programming using tools such as PL/SQL or Transact-SQL
    • Experience working with relational database analysis and reporting applications and tools
    • Experience working with testing methodology.

     

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Excellent verbal and written technical documentation skills
    • Desire to learn new technologies and develop solutions using a variety of integration technologies, patterns, and approaches
