    JOB DETAILS:

    UW-Stout Financial Aid Officers actively participate in serving prospective and current students and their families through financial aid related services. This includes educating prospective students about the financial aid process and awarding various aid programs. The advisor officer is also responsible for educating students about the importance of good financial management.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Provide counseling (advising, responding, reviewing, verifying, and exercising professional judgment) for prospective and current students (and their parents when applicable) regarding available federal, state, institutional and external sources of financial aid in support of the academic mission of UW-Stout. This position will also have programmatic duties within the scope of the financial aid office operations as it relates to veteran benefits/payment, tuition remission, and graduate assistantships. Must maintain a sophisticated understanding of the federal needs analysis, financial aid application process, and federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies. Ability to present comprehensive financial aid and budgeting counseling to individuals and groups. Must be willing to maintain knowledge through regular training through national and state financial aid organization membership, UW System, and the Department of Education. Ability to perform work under pressure to meet student service and operational demands, while maintaining service standards. Flexibility to work additional hours during peak demand.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum / Required

    • Bachelor’s degree or 7+ years professional experience in a financial aid office or comparable student service office
    • Experience using a student information system (such as but not limited to: PeopleSoft, Banner, etc.)
    • MS Word and Excel experience

    Highly Desired

    • Professional experience in higher education
    • Knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations
    • Experience using document imaging system
