A Message to Students and Parents:
The Wisconsin Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (WASFAA) is a non-profit organization comprised of financial aid professionals from across Wisconsin. This website is primarily a resource for those professionals. We do recognize, however, that occasionally a student or parent comes across our site looking for information. This page was created to provide some general information for you, but we strongly encourage you to consult a member of the financial aid staff at the institution you are considering attending.
High School Workshops
Each year, WASFAA sponsors High School Workshops to educate students and parents on the financial aid process. Click here to view High School events.
The FAFSA
The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), is generally the first step in the financial aid process. You use it to apply for federal student financial aid, such as grants, loans, and work-study. In addition, most states and schools use information from the FAFSA to award non-federal aid.
The official FAFSA website is http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/.
Note: Completing a FAFSA is a FREE process. Some "unscrupulous" companies may offer to "help" you complete a FAFSA for a fee. Avoid these companies. If you need assistance in completing a FAFSA, simply consult the financial aid office at the institution you are considering.
