Federal Issues Committee
Chairperson: Ernesto Monge
Committee Objectives: (from the WASFAA Handbook)
  • To develop a strategy addressing legislative concerns per category, i.e.;
    a) Congressional issues i.e., Reauthorization, appropriations, etc.
    b) Regulatory Issues
    c) Department of Education issues and State issues.
  • To identify issues at the sub committee level and recommend action to the full committee.
  • To report legislative concerns and address responses to the membership.
  • Serve as resource to legislators.
As the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act approaches, WASFAA has developed a position paper which is offering recommendations on a number of issues including need analysis, regulatory relief and refund policy. In doing so, we look forward to a re-authorization bill that will streamline the delivery of federal aid to students and simplify the regulatory environment in which we work.
